Extra ‘sneaky’ storage

Crofters have a good idea when it comes to extra ‘sneaky’ storage; their chairs have a drawer under the seat; very useful if you live in quite a small space. Consider the following if you’d like more storage in your home.

Sitting room; an ottoman or chest instead of a coffee table, a chest of drawers in place of a console table, and if you have open plan space use shelves as room dividers.

For the kitchen; if you’re having wall cupboards in your kitchen take them up the ceiling (unless it’s ten feet high like mine) for extra storage. Consider drawers instead of cupboards for your pans and crockery, a kitchen table with a built in drawer, and check out kitchen drawers that have a narrow cutlery drawer built in to the top of them that slides back.

For the hall; built in storage under the stairs or above a bulkhead, a bench with storage underneath instead of a chair, drawers built in to the bottom of mirrors.

For the bedroom; bedside drawers in place of tables, a divan bed with drawers instead of boxes under the bed, a blanket box for bedding, and if you’re having wardrobes fitted take them up the celling.

For the bathroom; use a narrow tall boy or vanity unit instead of shelves.
